Brian went to university in Edinburgh, where he met someone called Ian, and they discovered a mutual preference for classic British comedy with a leaning towards dark humour. The Goon Show, Not Only But Also, Monty Python, Not the Nine O'Clock News, Hitchhiker's Guide, Blackadder - they can all be counted as sources of inspiration. Based on this shared taste in comedy, and, it must be said, rock music, they decided to spread the word and do a show.
(Well, actually, it was a bit more complicated than that, but that's basically how it happened.)
On the back of the modest success of their first show, they decided to do a second one. Bad timing, bad management and Brian getting thrown out of college for the second time meant that they wouldn't do another one, but they had plans...
These plans revolved around doing a show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the largest, most prestigious, and probably the most famous performing arts festival in the world. Set amongst the historic cobbled and tarmac'd streets of Edinburgh every August since 1947, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is the place where the world looks to find new theatrical and comedic talent, among the established names and thousands of different performances that take place there, in every venue from the street, to phone boxes, backs of taxis, temporarily-converted bars, churches and actual theatres. Taking part in the festival is like a rite of passage for aspiring performers, and winning one of the awards can be as influential to success as winning the Palme d'Or at Cannes. And to top it all off, almost all of the people behind the inspirations we listed earlier experienced success at the Edinburgh Fringe, so it seems only fitting to try and follow in their footsteps.
So, more than twelve years after first putting on a show at QMUC when it was still at Corstorphine, a rebooted King Cobra Theatre are coming to Edinburgh - and this time, they're serious about not being serious.
